Accessibility statement

We want everyone to be able to use this site and the app, including people with disabilities. This page says what we've done so far and how to reach us if something doesn't work for you.

The standard

The site is designed to conform to Israeli Standard 5568, which is based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 at level AA. We also check it against WCAG 2.1 at level AA.

What we did

  • Text and controls meet the AA contrast ratios.
  • Every page works with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline and a "Skip to content" link.
  • Images have text alternatives, and decorative graphics are hidden from screen readers.
  • Every page declares its language and direction, so screen readers read Hebrew and Arabic right to left.
  • Animations stop for anyone whose device asks for reduced motion, and the accessibility menu can stop them on any page.
  • The accessibility menu (the blue button) enlarges text, raises contrast, switches to grayscale, underlines links and adds a reading guide.
  • Headings, lists and page regions are marked up in order, so pages can be navigated by structure.

Known limitations

  • The animated illustrations show what the app looks like. The same information is always in the text next to them.
  • The legal documents are long. Each is divided into numbered sections with headings.

The app

The NearbyLove Android app (version 1.9.43 and later) is built to work with TalkBack, the screen reader that comes with Android.

  • Buttons that show only an icon (close, settings, call, send, and so on) have a spoken name in the app's language.
  • Every button and row can be activated with TalkBack. Each one is announced as a button, by the words on it, without reading out emoji or arrows.
  • Each screen's title is marked as a heading, so you can jump to it.
  • Text colors reach a contrast of at least 4.5:1 against the app's light background.
  • Text follows the font size you choose in your phone's settings.

Known limitations in the app

  • The radar picture shows people as dots. A screen reader cannot read the dots. The same people are listed by name in the list view next to the radar.
  • Voice Dating is made of voice recordings. The recordings have no text version.
  • Video calls depend on seeing and hearing the other person.

If something in the app does not work for you, write to support@nearbylove.app and tell us which screen.
