Talk your way. Then call.
Write, record a voice message or share a photo. Once you've matched, call by voice or video, right from the chat. Calls are never recorded.
How it works
-
1
Write the first line
A new chat offers three ideas under "Break the ice:". ✓ means sent, ✓✓ means read.
-
2
Say it, or show it
Record a voice message of up to 30 seconds, or send a photo from your camera or gallery.
-

Call when you're ready
Once you've matched, tap 📞 for a voice call or 📹 for video. A voice call turns into video only if the other person agrees.
Wednesday, 8:30 pm. You matched this afternoon.
You tap "Coffee or cocktail for a first meeting?" under the ice breakers, and ✓✓ shows up a minute later. Her answer is a voice message, laughing: cocktail, obviously. You send a photo of the bar you had in mind. At 9:15 you tap 📞, and twenty minutes later you've agreed on Saturday, at a busy place you both know.
- 8:30 pm · First message
- 8:31 pm · ✓✓ Read
- 8:40 pm · Voice message back
- 9:15 pm · Voice call
What you can send in a chat
- Text, up to 5,000 characters.
- Voice messages, up to 30 seconds.
- Photos, checked before delivery and stripped of location data.
- Voice and video calls, once you've matched.
- In a Blind Date chat, "Reveal My Photo" when you're ready.
What doesn't go through Google: your message text. Notification previews don't carry it.
What to know
Encrypted on our server, not end to end
Message text is stored encrypted (AES-256-GCM) on our server in Germany. It is not end-to-end encryption: we hold the key, and our server can read messages. Voice messages and photos are stored unencrypted, behind links that expire within an hour.
Calls are never recorded
They go phone to phone when the networks allow it, otherwise through our own relay server in Germany, and stay encrypted either way. Phone to phone, each side can see the other's IP address, as with any direct connection. We keep a record of the call (who called whom, when, voice or video, how long it lasted and how it ended), and clear the connection details, addresses included, a day after the call.
Who can write, and who can call
Your matches, in Chats. Before a match, someone can write to you only if you showed interest first: "I'm Interested!" on a date they posted in IT'S A DATE!, or a ❤ in VibeSwipe. Calls are for matches only.
Report, block or unmatch
All three are in the chat menu: "Report User", "Block User" and "Unmatch". Unmatching isn't a block. A block works both ways: no messages, calls or requests, and you stop seeing each other on the radar, in IT'S A DATE!, VibeSwipe and Voice Dating.
Photos are checked first
Every chat photo is screened before it's delivered, and a photo that can't be checked isn't sent. The app strips location data from it before it leaves your phone.
Deleting is per side
Deleting a chat removes your copy, not theirs. Messages aren't deleted automatically, and they load from our server, so you need a connection to read them.
Questions about chats and calls
Are my messages end-to-end encrypted?
No, and we'd rather say so plainly. Message text is encrypted at rest on our server, but we hold the key, so it isn't end to end. Calls are encrypted on the way and never recorded.
Will someone know I blocked them?
No. A block is never revealed: to them, you're simply not there. They lose the conversation, photos and voice messages included. You keep it, as evidence if you want to report them.
Can the other person keep my photos?
Yes. The app has no view-once photos and doesn't block screenshots. Send only what you'd be fine with them keeping, and decide for yourself how much to share before you meet.
Who can call me?
Only people you've matched with, and only while neither of you has blocked the other. Calls are free on every plan, and you always choose whether to answer.
